On a special De-Nuclearization and World-Peace call
William Gibson turning 60th, author of Neuromancer and quotable master of Twitter. He has nothing to do with this post except that a small "nuclear strife" is usually a background to anything cyberpunk-related. He should be making this post, not me, but alas, I guess he is probably twitting about things more important than this. You are welcome for the free advertisement, Gibson. We still love you.

Hey there, edgeMuted here (I added the d because it needed it from the beginning).

So, yea, I just went and had a cig and someone I've seen around approached me to tell me very terrible things that are happening in my building. I can't really blame the staff, nor her, nor my neighbors, but something weird is going on, granted. Wintermute? I don't know, maybe they know something about it, I just know one thing for certain: we're all living in the same building.

It's kind of the same when I drive across San Francisco and the streets seem angrier than New York's, but maybe it's just because I'm unused to driving. Gas prices, that's something we can all agree are insane. Gas itself, I mean, there's many ways to not destroy the only building we live in.

A few weeks ago, I had this weird interaction with a next-door neighbor. You know, like that time Russian troops were patrolling the borders of Ukraine a month ago. We don't get media coverage, so the whole still kept where it belonged: don't bother each other and things will be okay. Hell, ask me for a smoke if you need one, I'm unable to retain vengeful thoughts. The whole, "you can hear my thoughts" is worse when I realize that maybe I am not the only feeling extremely anxious all the time. You're either high or bleeding/going through a major crisis/ to think that the world itself is not anxious-inducing right now. I am not in the right meds, and I'm not high.

Is Putin taking his medications?

Look, I know that the whole "UKRAINE IS A NATION" is a waifu, but it's a fucking important one this time. I'd value it at the value of all cryptocurrencies out there for a simple reason: once Ukraine falls and we move on to the next news cycle thing, Taiwan will be just a memory, and so might be a lot of other countries and the raise of new imperialisms is never good. I am all against the nation- if the yellow flag means no war, well, it's better than death's flag, it has none, and there's a reason why. No one alive has yet survived death.

I myself come from a crumbling country, my building seemed to be falling apart, everyone seems to be just... anxious... and at times, just smiling too much. Nervous laughter all around, quiet sobs in solitude.

The world is already fucked, the Cold War is just a waifu for historians, the fact remains that a Nuclear War is possible and more probable than ever.

Look, cyberwar is already horrible. I consider myself completely pwned, sometimes, not right now. And it has been hell. I'm just trying to live my life, like my neighbors mentioned (I already forgot the name because I suck with names).

Here are some reasons why to stop nuclear war and war in general by any means necessary:

My brother will be a father. I will be an uncle.

War never changes. It's boring and exhausting.

We already have machines that kill themselves inside of simulations of the world in Team Fortress 2 servers.

I haven't killed myself and we all survived a pandemic. Despite whatever the hell is going on around us.

Etc.

"Oh edgeMute, you're so selfish", well, yes and no. My point is that my life in peacetime is quite possible, but in war, well, it gets harder for everyone. People create monsters out of their waifus and hate each other for no apparent reason. For Putin, the war is becoming a civil war. Every day I have to check the news to know if I am alive or not. "Maybe the world already ended" I think to myself while looking at the bricks beyond my windows.

Sometimes I've thought that maybe the only reason why I've survived this long is just to prove that, despite aggressions and other shitty things that have been done to me, without martyr-dom aspirations, I can be peaceful and retain my values. Don't do it anymore, please, because it has been enough.

Zelenzsky, from what I know, some comedian that turned politician and now world-leader, gave an incredible powerful speech today (the day after I wrote all the previous stuff). He has hit hard into American nationalism: used the historical struggles of this nation-state to create, at least, a no-fly zone over Ukraine.

The thing here is that he has all my support, what the Russian government is doing is basically an old formula that they already applied. Modern war is a glitchy as Fallout 76, you won't exactly know anything about it because, well, who can really tell me what the hell happened in Syria, except those who spend their lives researching or surviving it?

However, I will be the last to volunteer to place myself in a death-chamber above the skies of Kyiv (not so fun fact, the reason why all over Western media they are calling it now Kyiv is because that's the Ukranian way to say it... something of a waifu, but as I stated before, not all waifus have the same value). I might be a coward, or maybe not really know how to fly a death-chamber anyways, but there's a time for action and the only safe course is pacific opposition.

Active opposition, defensive measures, well, hell, my own neighbors might be working on it, I don't know, maybe Wintermute is a thing to unleash into psychopathic leaders like Putin. Emotions, however, are not the way to go, is just what my guts tells me.

I am all for peace, and of course against imperialism, real new imperialisms, oppression of any kind, etc.

But I won't be the first to fly over Kyiv to protect it from Russian attacks.

Would you?

I cannot blame you if you do.

I am sad that the discussion around the Russo-Ukranian war is not connected directly by most people to the need of De-Nuclearization of the world.

Look, a city in flames and innocents dying is already a tragedy. Look, I know you know this. I know that you know what I am about to tell you. I just know, because we all know, but... We have never been this close to the normalization of Nuclear War, even by calling them "tactical", they are the whole reason why the West went to war with Iraq at one point, only to turn out a vaporware waifu.

It really gets on my nerves whenever I see that the discussion of the use of Nuclear Weapons gets trivialized into "well, it's not gonna be like Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but a tactical nuke".

Yea, and chirurgical strikes by Tomahawks never ever destroyed, I don't know, a large media organization Channel in Baghdad.

IF you can't really precisely bomb a target with conventional weaponry, which is really IMPOSSIBLE (Drones? Oh, yea, they are also very unprecise or run by a Russian Troll Farm, I don't know), don't go on talking about tactical nuclear strikes. This is the Real World, not Starcraft.

The need for de-nuclearization is more dire than ever, I'd say to Congress. Even as important as to defend the values of Western-flavored democracies, and more so, Human Rights.

Would give my life for such an endeavor? No.

A zero-sum game is a game. The world is more complex than your favorite anime with real waifus which you still worship secretly.

So, Putin, get off your fucking high horse, and rest of the world, let's use this chance to create a more meaningful enterprise than colonizing Mars: de-nuking Earth.

So in the name of all things free, loving and peaceful, let us destroy only what destroy us. We're all in the same planet, we are all going to suffer the consequences of what's happening in the spherical opposite (I suck at geometry, sorry) of where we are.

It has been that way for years, but there's war between Nuclear powers. Ukraine would be in a realpolitik sense only make sense to let fall for the sake of nuclear power, not anything else.

So yea, make love, a lot of it, be responsible with kids and STDs, but make a lot of love and try to make peace, is my condescending conclusion. Destroy nuclear weapons, but don't go on conquering unknown lands for the sake of such enterprise. We've gone far, said Carl Sagan in the 80s. Lets make that last a little longer, for the sake of yourself.

Cyberweapons, well, I mean, don't tell anyone I told you, but you can probably social engineer the whole system into believing that the most important thing to do is to de-escalate as much as possible any aggression and de-nukefy the world.

Hey Mr. Musk, now that your Planet A is doomed, where are our Mars Colonies?

If this post has found you in a moment of distress, may peace come to you soon.

MOOD: Existential Dread

Do I really need to add that Russo-phobia is as evil as war? The Russian government is not Russia, but, just in case that the future finds me in a difficult stance to make about a war I have no idea about.
