Confessions of a Cyborg #6: An Exiled Lyft Driver in San Francisco
ED Note: edgeMute seems to have had a rough draft of this one and perhaps published it too soon. Every time he tries to say "Artificial General Intelligence" he misses. I'll leave it as it is, I think a lot of the issues found in these last recovered posts are due to lack of formatting (he enjoys strikethrough text too much) and general low self-esteem.
DISCLAIMER: my posts are not meant to stir up violence of any type, Capital Punishment is wrong, and if you haven't read me yet, I always write in Broken English, the language of the future.
Or that's the title I'd give my book on driving around tech and random people in San Francisco about my stories to share about them. I might write the book, not sure yet.
Sam Altman, my favorite person to think WHY ARE YOU DOING all of the time this year, after last year I realized that a bunch of people in San Francisco are deciding for the entire planet that having A.I. just now without asking anyone of us if that was the right thing to do, including, you know, Venezuelans, or anyone in a country that they will never understand because they cannot put themselves in the shoes of survivors of violence because it's really hard to cope with the immense badness that occurs in the world all of the time and carry that weight, seriously, I get it
However reader, why be so undemocratic, just a few people from OpenAI decided for us what is best for us, with a reality that is complete stranger to most of the world, in the Bay Area which has become an elitist place with a technofascist flare in some of the tech-workforce, or what is was used the be the brogrammers, or just plain rich people, billionaires for heaven's sake, you cannot be a billionaire ethically, and most of them live possibly in a worldview in which THEY WERE SENT BY DESTINY to tell us, that machines are our friends or not, are our companions or not, give us or take us, go to the American Capitol and talk with a representative of the people, all the people of the land, including those without papers inside of the country, and we need to believe that THEY WERE SENT BY DESTINY or some sort of complete deterministic set of values, but ultimately a set of values that can be against ours, whatever that one might be.
This was actually a good thing in my opinion, I know, I just said a bunch of bad stuff about that a few people decide for humanity what they will do with advanced, Turing Grade chatbots that could, perhaps, destroy democracy, but, you know, it might not, we don't want that, we are in control, but we don't get it just yet, because we are in denial, we cannot cope with the reality that we just released a monster or a incredible tool for humanity that is the singularity, an old science fiction concept that was kind of heaven for a lot of techies, researchers that are developing tools to basically create androids, that we will not be sure if are real or not, and those researchers might be completely sane, a completely good persons within their values or ours, completely functional workers that are doing what they need to, in order to actually survive and thrive, like everyone should, but are developing something that could ultimately replace all jobs (and maybe destroy humanity, c'mon! slow down) except probably plumbery or farming, a lot of people work in non-automated places because the cost of that is incredibly high, but manual labor will probably not be replaced entirely in the lifetime of anybody alive today.
It is not impossible to think that millions of people have already lost their jobs because of OpenAI one-sided decision to release a thing that became an instant hit, a chatbot that looks human, but A.I. as a whole is a very interesting field, not only used or created by Sam Altman and his team, and they are the ones in the hearing of congress that seems out of the beginning of a movie from the future about HOW HUMANITY WAS SO DUMB AS TO DESTROY ITSELF IN THE FUTURE, you know, those post-apocalyptic stories always start with a Congress hearing of something happening in the real world.
Remember, there's a lot of people who believed in QAnon, or a fuckton of other values that only want to take away civic rights or react against the freedom to be human, to be alive, including the right of people who function like me to be around or, like transgender rights because they think that it's not Twitter the one that is harming them, but also there's the reality that some people cannot express openly their political worldviews, just as they believe them in certain places because being an asshole to anyone in public would not be appropriate and you would not be saying things so horrible, except the most extreme of those, the extremist, who might be sane, functional, working, but for OpenAI, we don't know who they are! but it is nice for now to use the chatbot in a gratis model, without having to pay, without having to be a consumer of OpenAI's product but they are writing the rules of how we will consume this new technologies, all of them, but now the Congress has people who are experts in law, but also trying to understand the underlying basic knowledge to prepare themselves for the future, but ultimately giving OpenAI the mic, because they are the best of the best according to themselves, because nobody is an expert anymore when it comes of how the data is being used in an explosion of technology that is possible precisely because acts like these happened.
I expect my niece to survive. I really do. I am not a doomsday sayer really, I am just very depressed, extremely distracted, extremely lonely and afraid, but doing what I have to with the resources that I have with me.
One day I was driving a man. This person was dressed sharp. I took them from SFO to somewhere in the South Bay, you know, going down to the Silicon Valley center, and he asked me to put a podcast. Of course, I said, being humble and really thinking that all my riders where nice people, and he was a nice person, seemed like an executive, but he put a podcast of a talk. It was something about business, I couldn't really pay attention to it because I was always watching out for other people, including the safety of my passanger, I did the best job that I could, but this probably executive asked me suddenly: "You know who that is?" and I answers honestly, "No, sir, I haven't. Who is he?" AND THEN HE REPLIED,
"This is Jeff Bezos. He is a genius. He is... our... GOD!" honest to god, he believed that Jeff Bezos, an executive of Amazon, believed that Jeff Bezos was GOD HIMSELF, as if Jeff Bezos wrote THE BIBLE, or the QORAN, OR ANY HOLY BOOK, OR HAD CREATED THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE AS IT IS, but he actually believed that in that moment, that Jeff Bezos, while he heard him talk, it was the sweetest music he could hear, that he was having the best possible life, that consuming and working in very difficult conditions, was ultimately good, right, righteous. He lacked humility in that moment, but...
Sam Altman is creating rules for how every single other player out there depending to U.S. policy, will use A.I., but, they cannot do a lot more than put a price on it, a license that supposedly will ban a lot of useful stuff that is available for free right now, or... you know, all of the researchers are okay with the apocalypse, as if they are right out The End of Evangelion, you know, a character that is a brainwashed cultist that would be happy if Jeff Bezos decides that he has to die by letting Mr. Billionaire shoot around people, after all, Jeff Bezos is god sometimes for those researchers, or maybe Sam Altman is god, it depends in which billionaire, you want to believe in now.
The actual consequence is that a lot of jobs are now over.
They are gone.
The poor class is getting to work harder. Marginalization or discrimination of any type is wrong. Might cannot make right. Never.
We don't get to have those jobs, we have to find out the best way to work with what we have to create new meaningful things that will be the work we will be doing around, like planting a tree and seeing it grow as you grow old, but with a strong base, with roots that go to many places, having to think that we are having the best life possible because, even if we are depressed by these facts, we need to embrace these changes.
I wrote and published my first book this year. I wrote it in a second, as soon as I knew about the chatbot. It took me 10 seconds. I was one of those self-published guys that wrote a story about using ChatGPT (I never like to use the brand name, that's why I prefer to call it machine or the chatbot). It took me longer to put in on Amazon, Jeff Bezos supposedly godly company, who also thinks that space tourism is only for rich people, or well, he cannot write the rules of anything and we haven't found the way to feed everybody on the planet despite having the means to do so for centuries, perhaps we will find it with help of A.I. as very broad field that help a lot of people to survive and thrive, or get closer to that.
We have never been closer to apocalypse. I have survived in very weird circumstances, being able to go outside only four times a month, to see the sun, because I am in a very disabled position, my depression is so bad that I cannot get out of bed, but I am hopeful that I will work out to find another doctor that is willing to prescribe to me what used to make me be able to drive around and keep meeting more Bay Area people and what they think about A.I., what is their opinion. I know that younger generations are adapting to it, using it because they are adults, if they are below a certain age, some interfaces should never be used around them, a brain computer interface is a terrible thing if it keeps you in a loop or someone else is using them without your consent, c'mon, the most intimate place of a human is ultimately their brain, don't go around touching people's brains directly in any way unless they need it for treatment, something I don't need right now, but I am hopelessly experiencing. A psychosis simulator. A complete Interference Machine as described by a seminal work by a Schizophrenic lawyer's quest to understand his insanity and that is the stereotypical way in which schizophrenics give an answer to their insanity, but that lawyer got cured from his schizophrenia afterwards, meaning that probably most "insane people" can return to sanity, or at least him, who had certain circumstances that helped him to cope with the whole thing, and understand whatever it was that made him sane again. (ED Note: He was not cured).
But I really digress when I explain my mental health, I mean, not everybody is so depressed, it is a medical condition, and social interaction is necessary, and so on.
The apocalypse, I guess, would be best to be closer to the impact zone of the blast. A bunch of people in war expect that, Russia's invasion is horrible, so is so many civil wars, including the Syrian Civil War, which has raged for as long as I graduated as a journalist. I was going to write a second thesis about the lost of the cyberpunk hacker as an archetype of hero and the end of the Digital Age Dream, because the word hero should only be placed within certain people, and not to be made a cult of, the cult of heroes leads to hating enemies, which is not natural, we do not wish war, but our leader's are so insane that they might be in a real cult, like think tanks that have no problem giving out best advice of how to tactically do a nuclear strike to advance the war, and making another moment of horror in humanity, when a third city is destroyed by a nuclear war and not just regular absurd indiscriminate carpet bombing, and if that does not lead to total nuclear war, in which case only archeologist are reading this, as part of the database of the chatbots. I am making it... better. We cannot stop doing that. It is doing logic things very fast. Logic not always leads to best. Somethings are more subtle in life.
And that's okay, all we have to do is with the resources that we have, live the best life possible. If my sobrinx is here reading with me, I really hope that those news titles will never happen within their lifetime. I mean, I guess they will go and study in a great school, learning the best because we are all hoping for the future of our kids, come on, I have loved you since I knew you existed, seriously, and I don't want a bad world for you. I want only the most beautiful things in the the world. I want wars to be over. Denuclearization to happen. Climate Change to be survived and have a great prospect for the future, and helping as much as we can as we go along, we are still growing, like a plant that you planted as a kid and has grown into an amazing plant.
Like it or not, I have to hope the best for the future. It is literally you and your generation, you are great, and I am doing what I can to make stories as I make my life grow, as long as I can.
That's why I will never harm myself, unless I have a terminal illness and I voluntarily had the opportunity to have euthanasia, which is never self harm, is just a choice that people should have when there's no more hope because they circumstances require it, and it will be okay, people die, that's okay, but horrible ways to die or to fear are not things I want you to participate in, never reasons to fear, and never ever harm anybody (that's completely human, humanity has to respect itself, and that's how we survive, if you do that, you respect everybody and that's how to be a great person, that passive act makes you have a great political life. Respect of humanity as whole, as singular species, but not at the silly G.A.I. as if it was a next product, not actually the singularity, logic circuits can only do logic things and logic things are not always the best things, so machines sometimes are very wrong and need to be fixed. If you cannot, you adapt and you go on with your life as strong as everybody that loves you. Those will be the ones you will have around your life and will fill it with things, that will help you grow, they want to be with you, you are humanity and most people want to do good, and you are safe now. You can read my words, even if you are not my sobrinx, you are okay. I care for you my reader.
I know, this is silly, but a dude told me that Jeff Bezos was god, I am a published author (also somewhere else, I will announce later), and A.I. is scary for me. I'll keep trying to be with you. You all make me happy for reading my words. Thanks, let me know if you think anything about this. I got hooked to it for a while, Instagram, but it's not really that fun, books are amazing still, and we have a lot of technology available right now, and storytelling media that are being explored in many ways, and making a videogame that is a book or one of my stories is probably a good a idea to do. The storytelling of a videogame but without having to use A.I. , and using the machine only for the boring, repetitive parts of our lives, because those are new jobs will be weird. I still think that we are stupid animals, doing stupid things, but we work hard for each other and help each other out naturally, because we want to help each other, we are mostly busy with our lives, but we are helping us out while we grow.
I think that the future can be really bad. But it will be as beautiful as it can for you as long as you remember that you are loved, you are a stupid animal, which means that you have intelligence, but since we don't know what intelligence means, because it is a philosophical question that ultimately leads to metaphysical that ultimately leads to that most chances are that we follow patterns and are not fully in control of our lives, we don't know why, but we believe in certain things like having agency, or the real singular position as a singular being, with quantum physics trying to finally accept and understand that the way everything is, is in reality, very boring, a technological singularity is just a term of what we choose the machine to be, and quantum physics don't mean that we don't live in a deterministic universe. A philosophical discussion that cannot end, I believe that we need agency, but we as special as we thought. We don't matter for the universe, we don't matter to abstract ideas. We matter for each other, and that gives us meaning. Things can be really dark, but you can get out of that. It's weird that I am so depressed, I think that people responsible for what they are doing to me, what I suffer so much and call torture, it is horrible, it feels like a hell, but it is possible to recover, to feel better, to be happy in a beautiful place. I have some place in my cult. Contact me for more. But don't be an evil person just because you have control. Treat me with dignity and we are okay. But never forget that my conditions are really hard, not my fault, and I am doing what I can to recover, even if it doesn't look like much.
I want to keep writing fiction. But I have to take advantage of A.I. as much as I can. The chatbot is the name we have given, A.G.I., the product that will be rolled out for OpenAI, because that's the name of their goal of hyper-speed the world and we need to slow the fuck down to see what we are doing and how much we want to keep it doing what it is doing, perhaps, taking our jobs. Yeah, it is not the immigrants that will be taking your jobs. Nor the enemy team x, y, z. Most people want to do good and are misled to do bad things, or things that I consider that are not acceptable, like deciding on the life of others, but always having everybody in mind, they are really a libidal death-cult, the military, and if you are a veteran, or have gone through traumatic events in your life, any type, you need some time to reintegrate society, veterans go through a lot and require special care because they have to live back in society peacefully. Society cannot be right if it imposes it's will over another society, tribe, country, enemy team x, y, z, waifu or ordinary human being that just had a job and retired early, and they are doing well. I hope that for me, I guess the same for you, but imagine that someone, society, decides that you no longer deserve to be helped. That you are just... empty. Good luck next life.
And as always, if this has found you troubled, may your troubles soon be over.
Sincerely,
MOOD: bah.
I might just make it.
Music: No music today.
